Girls Basketball Goes to 18-1 After Throttling Century

Walkersville Girls’ Basketball soars again and defeats Century. The record of the girls’ basketball team has now increased to 18-1. The score of the game was 71-24 Walkersville. The Girls dominated the entire game. It was an enticing game, great all-around offense, and shut down defense.
The first quarter was little rough in the first few minutes. Century came out and scored five easy points. After that, the Walkersville Girls’ Basketball team scored with ease. The Lions also played some amazing defense. Some great players in the first quarter were Megan Allen and Eve Bernardoni. Allen scored some baskets off the bench that lead to a great lead going into the second quarter. Eve Bernardoni played some great defense getting a few blocks and steals.
The second quarter showed the continuous aggression in play. The Walkersville Girls’ kept on rolling. Emma Bernardoni came off the bench, made some important baskets, and played some great defense in the paint. The threes were also raining in. Multiple threes from Eve and Maddie Hommey kept Walkersville’s lead. Going into halftime the Lions were up 44-14. “Excellent defense in the first half; they lock down the paint with ease,” said senior Garrett Allen.
Going into the third quarter the girls’ basketball team pounded Century. The girls’ basketball team worked really hard, scored a lot of points in the paint, and wore down the Century defense. Rian Wright, Julie Wallace, and Mak McSweeney were all important grabbing offensive boards and pushing the tempo all the way in Walkersville’s favor. The game was Walkersville’s from there. The girls kept the commanding lead the rest of the way.
The fourth quarter again was a great defensive showing by the entire Walkersville team. The girls created turnovers and turned them into points on the other end. All around it was a great performance by all the girls. At the end of it, the Lions had three scores of ten points and had ten different scores. “The sharing of the ball in this game was tip top. They were passing the ball with great vision, and making plays all night,” said senior Ari Biggus.
“The varsity girls played really well, and spread the ball around, and played some really well on the perimeter not letting too many open threes,” said sophomore Randie Burns
“I thought we played really well and the team played even better together. Williamsport is going to be competitive and we need to start fast and use it the entire game and defense and communication is key. The young girls game needed some reffing classes,” said senior Maddie Hommey.
“They took control of the game after the first five minutes. After that was just toying with the other team. They play with such tenacity, and teamwork,” said senior Josh Clegg.
The girls’ basketball team played really well and look to continue their dominance with their next game being at a talented Williamsport on February 11th at 7 p.m.
